Man's wives have no sense of humor
RIYADH (Reuters) - A Saudi man lost a bit of his nose in a joint assault by his two wives after he jokingly threatened to marry a third woman.
Judaie Ibn Salem had thought his threat would help resolve an argument over dividing up his house.
"I swore that I would do it because ... they were impolite and that's when I came under an even bigger attack," Ibn Salem told Shams newspaper after having seven stitches inserted.
"I never realized they would get so worked up. But the only way to restore my dignity is really to take a third wife.
"I don't know what I'm going to lose next if I do that."
Islamic law allows men to take up to four wives and polygamy is not unusual in the conservative kingdom of Saudi Arabia, the birthplace of Islam.

Philandering, bribe-taking Chinese policeman jailed for life
SHANGHAI (AFP) - A philandering policeman in China has been jailed for life for taking five million yuan (625,000 dollars) in bribes so he could lavish his six mistresses with cash and gifts, state press said Wednesday.
Xu Xiaogang, 56, former vice director of public security in eastern China's Jiangxi province, was convicted by a court on Monday of taking advantage of his post to seek personal benefits, the Shanghai Daily reported.
The newspaper said Xu admitted to taking bribes from criminal suspects under investigation between 1997 and 2005.
He then used that money to shower his mistresses in various different cities with cash and gifts.
One woman involved with Xu was believed to have received more than two million yuan.
The case is the latest incident of graft to dog China's ruling Communist Party, which has said year after year that stamping out official corruption is a top priority.
The issue is one of the top causes of public discontent in booming China but, despite the string of recent high profile arrests, the problem continues seemingly unabated.

'Unsatisfied' 110-year old Saudi take second wife
RIYADH (AFP) - A 110-year old Saudi man has taken a second wife because his first 85-year-old wife no longer satisfies his needs, the daily Arab News said on Friday.
The report did not explain why the man considered his current wife to be unfulfilling, but it did point out that his new spouse is only 30 years old.
Under Islamic law, men are allowed to have as many as four wives, as long as they can support them and provide for them equally.
A 70-year-old son of the unnamed man, from the southern city of Baha, said his father was in good health and that his family was thrilled at the news of the latest nuptials.

Stand-in mistress sought to take wife's abuse
BEIJING (Reuters) - A Chinese businessman has advertised on the Internet for a stand-in mistress to be beaten up by his wife to vent her anger and to protect his real mistress, Chinese media reported on Monday.
"When the woman found out her husband had a mistress, she insisted on beating her up," the Beijing Youth Daily said, citing the advertisement posted on a popular online jobs forum on sina.com.
More than 10 people had applied for the job, the newspaper said. The "successful" candidate would be 35 and originally from northeastern China and would be paid 3,000 yuan ($400) per 10 minutes, it said.
Many Chinese businessmen keep mistresses in second homes, a trend banished after the Communists swept to power in 1949 but which has made a comeback with market reforms in recent decades.

Bigamist 'butt' busted by wife No. 4
LYNCHBURG, Va. - A man who dresses up as a giant cigarette and uses hip-hop music to encourage children in Lynchburg and beyond to avoid smoking pleaded guilty Tuesday to bigamy. Phillip Dale Williams, 37, had as many as four wives at the same time, Chuck Felmlee, deputy commonwealth's attorney, said.
Williams' fourth wife, Lashawn Stevenson, became suspicious earlier this year when her husband began receiving child support notices in the mail. When the couple wed in 2003, he told her he had never been married, Felmlee said.
Stevenson's investigation led her to a Vallejo, Calif., woman, Antoinette Borum, who told Stevenson Williams left her in 2002 with two children and no child support. When Stevenson confronted Williams, he told her he had married Borum and two other women before her, Felmlee said.
Williams told police he divorced the first wife, but not the second or Borum. Police haven't been able to contact the first two wives, Felmlee said.
Williams' attorney, Tom Current, declined to comment on the case.
Williams was known locally for playing "Douglas 'Dude' Cigarette," a character he created in 1996. He has performed in about a dozen states.
Williams faces up to 10 years in prison when he is sentenced March 9.

Tokyo man with 11-woman commune had stun gun
TOKYO (Reuters) - Police found a stun gun and tear gas on Friday at the Tokyo home of a man who said he persuaded 11 younger women to live with him by chanting a spell, media reports said.
Police suspect he used the weapons to prevent the women, mainly in their 20s, from leaving, the reports said.
Hirohito Shibuya, 57, was arrested on Thursday for allegedly threatening a 20-year-old woman who was reluctant to join the commune by telling her that if she left she would be turned to mincemeat, they said.
He denied threatening the woman, Kyodo news agency said, adding that he also allegedly told her he was a former senior officer in Japan's military with secret agents around him.
Shibuya, a bald, rotund man with bags under his eyes, has attracted heavy media attention this week after claiming he chanted a spell to attract the women.
He had married and divorced several of the women, who continued to live with him, the reports said.
Asked what the incantation was, he told a newspaper: "When you say it, even unattractive men become attractive. But I won't say it because if I do, I'll die."
Police confiscated several books on hypnosis from his home, Kyodo said.
