British tourism chiefs red-faced over porn weblink

LONDON (AFP) - Britain's tourism agency apologised for a link on its website which directed visitors to a pornography page.

Visit Britain said they thought pranksters had hacked into their Internet site after the porn link was reported by net surfers who got more than they bargained for when searching for what Cardiff has to offer.

"In the immediate term we have corrected the link and, while we cannot be responsible for the content of external sites, apologise for any distress caused," said a spokesman for the website.

Jeff Rees, a Welshman living in Finland, logged on and said he was left absolutely disgusted.

"I was shocked when I saw that -- very surprised," he told the South Wales Echo newspaper.

"I wanted to see what kind of things were being done to promote Cardiff and I was just amazed when I saw this website link; I couldn't believe it."

Visit Britain is responsible for marketing the kingdom worldwide.

The link has now been changed from porn to "Destination Cardiff", which promotes leisure and business tourism in the Welsh capital.

Poor Work Performance Blamed on Internet

KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia - About 20 percent of government staff in one Malaysian state use the Internet for personal activities including downloading pornography, music and games, the national news agency reported Tuesday.

This was one of the main causes of poor work performance in Johor state, Bernama said quoting a top state official, Norsiah Harun, adding that large file downloads also considerably slowed the state government's computer system.

Norsiah said the government viewed the matter seriously and would enforce the relevant regulations soon. She reminded all department heads to be firm in tackling the problem and to remind their staff of their responsibilities, Bernama said.

"Government staff are also reminded not to take too long during morning and afternoon breaks," she said.
