Porn swap sparks defense leak furore
TOKYO (Reuters) - Three Japanese naval officers who swapped pornography on their computers triggered a scandal over a possible leak of sensitive data linked to Japan's missile defense system, a newspaper said Thursday.
Police launched a probe last week after a navy officer married to a Chinese woman was found to have taken home a computer disk containing information about the high-tech Aegis radar system, domestic media said.
Aegis is used on Japanese destroyers that are to be fitted with SM-3 missile interceptors from this year as part of the missile defense program.
The officer told police he accidentally copied the confidential data onto his computer's hard disk when copying porn from a computer belonging to a crew member from another destroyer, the Yomiuri newspaper reported.
A third officer was also found to have copied data on the Aegis system alongside pornographic images, the Yomiuri said.
Police suspect senior officers were also involved in the swap because none of the three were authorized to access the confidential information, the Yomiuri said.
Japan sped up the implementation of its missile defense program after
North Korea fired a volley of ballistic missiles last year. Last Friday, its first ground-based interceptors were trucked into Iruma air base in Saitama prefecture, north of Tokyo, to protect the capital.
Any defense leak could potentially affect Japan's biggest ally, the United States, whose navy also uses the Aegis system.
"I'm aware of the ongoing investigation," Bruce Wright, the commander of U.S. forces in Japan, told reporters.
"We take operational security very seriously in the U.S. military. I know the Japan Self-Defense Forces also take operation security seriously."
Spokesmen for the Defense Ministry and local police declined to comment on the investigation.

Hard-core porn interrupts news show
MESA, Ariz. - A cable news program was temporarily replaced with hard-core pornography, shocking viewers who had been watching a health show featuring former NBC News anchor Tom Brokaw. The incident Monday night on KPPX-TV was "an act of human sabotage" at the Phoenix-area station, said ION Television, which operates the station.
"We have launched a rigorous investigation, and any implicated employees will face strict disciplinary action and termination," ION Media Networks spokeswoman Leslie Monreal said in a statement.
Brenda Schodt, of Chandler, said she was shocked to look up and see graphic sex acts on her television screen.
"Maybe five or 10 minutes into the show there was no volume," Schodt said. "I thought it was the TV, but when I looked up, there were these images."
ION Television, based in West Palm Beach, Fla., declined to say whether the pornography aired beyond the Phoenix market.

Video glasses keep porn private in public
LAS VEGAS, United States (AFP) - Sleek video glasses that turn film viewing into a private affair went on view at the world's biggest porn show on Wednesday, just after they were demonstrated down the road at the planet's largest consumer electronics show.
Victor Quitoriano of Body Care Resort coaxed passersby to shut out the bustling activity at the AVN Adult Entertainment Expo by sampling an intimate video viewing session complete with audio through an ear piece.
He had been demonstrating models of the same glasses at the Consumer Electronics Show a short distance away in the Sands Exposition Center just a day earlier.
"Our technology crosses over," Quitoriano told AFP. "The videos we showed there weren't porn, because we didn't want to offend anybody."
"Here, it's different. Imagine you can take your porn all over the place; in a plane or a train, but not in the car unless you are the passenger."
The video glasses, made in Taiwan and sold by California-based Body Care, connected to all of the lasted video-playing devices from
Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 game consoles to Apple's iPod and Microsoft's Zune MP3 players.
The model being shown off by Quitoriano carry a suggested retail price of 349 dollars (US) but were discounted for show-goers.
"The only competition I've seen is Sky Mall," Quitoriano said, referring to a gadget catalogue commonly found on the seatbacks on commercial airplanes.

Spanish police embarrassed by porno film
MADRID, Spain - Spanish police officers settling in for a video presentation on how to get promoted to sergeant were instead shown footage from a hard-core pornographic film, officials said Tuesday.
Howling laughter rippled through the auditorium where 120 Madrid city police officers had gathered Monday to see the video on operations at an academy where they are to study, the Madrid regional justice and interior ministry said.
A ministry official said computer technicians have blamed the glitch on a Trojan Horse computer virus that activated when the computer containing the video was turned on.
"It was just bad luck that the virus activated right then," said the official, who could not be named because of department rules.
The person operating the computer stopped the video and turned it back on several times but each time the porno movie came back on, so the operator eventually just shut the computer off altogether, the official said.

3G phones banned in anti-porn drive
PHNOM PENH (Reuters) - Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen has banned 3G mobile phones after a complaint from his wife and her friends about receiving pornography on them.
"I have written to the Minister of Telecommunications to delay the use of certain mobile phones," Hun Sen told an assembly of Buddhist monks in Phnom Penh Friday. "We can wait 10 more years until we have managed to improve morality in society."
Hun Sen, a one-eyed former Khmer Rouge soldier who has been in charge for the past 20 years, said his wife had signed a petition asking him to act against the phones, which can send video as well as still images.
Sexual violence and abuse are common in the war-scarred Southeast Asian nation.
Cambodia's first 3G (third-generation) mobile network opened earlier this year, but few people can afford the phones.

Ohio High School Porn Homework Canceled
BROOKLYN, Ohio - A high school research assignment on Internet pornography was canceled after parents in this Cleveland suburb complained.
Superintendent Jeff Lampert said that although the teacher's apparent goal — to discuss the harmful effects of pornography — was well-intentioned, he agreed with parents that the assignment was inappropriate for 14- and 15-year-old freshmen at Brooklyn High.
The assignment asked students to research pornography on the Internet and list eight facts about pornography. Students also were asked to write their personal views of pornography and any experience they had with it.
Lampert said he doubted the teacher, Scott Gioia, would face any punishment. Gioia teaches health and physical education and has been at the school for about five years.
Lampert said he started getting calls Wednesday and met with the principal and Gioia. They decided that day to drop the project.
"We value the partnership we have" with the community, Lampert said. "We take that very seriously."
There was no phone listing under Gioia's name in the Cleveland area.
Last fall, controversy over questionable work-study credits given to a member of the football team led the team to forfeit four wins — the team's only victories of the season and the first in two years.
